Ruth’s Recipes was founded in the summer of 2013 by sisters Kathy Broha, Karen Darnall, and Patricia Thomas in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our business was created after receiving multiple requests to have our mother, Ruth, make her traditional hummus dish for our family and friends special events. Having a local product that is healthy and delicious for others to enjoy was too good not to share!

The matriarch of our family, Ruth resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with the rest of her family. 


My family's Lebanese ancestors made their way to America when my grandparents immigrated in the early 1900s and settled in Louisiana. They brought with them their love of food, family and faith. These traditions were passed down to my mother Ruth Thomas, who from an early age learned how to prepare Lebanese meals and shared them with her growing family. Hummus was always a staple at our family’s dinner table (five siblings); decades before it became a healthy snack option, we were already eating it with everything!  Family and friends always commented that hers was the best and we agreed.  Anytime any of us were invited to a party, we were always asked to bring the hummus and so the tradition began!

Ruth's family continued to grow, and with it came the founders of our company. 
If you come by Ruth's house on any given Sunday night the sights and sounds will look just like they did back in the old days.

Ruth's Kitchen

The kitchen has been a place where Ruth has been able to pass along all her knowledge of a great home cooked meal. Ruth's favorite place to be in her house is in the kitchen, you can always find Ruth creating a new dish or perfecting an old family recipe that has been passed down from many generations.  Being around Ruth's family is truly a blessing, the same love she puts into her food is equal to the same she shares with her family.
